Junior Cricket Report 12th May 2018
The U17s won against a strong Longridge side at Longridge on 29 April on a beautiful sunny evening. Highlights were 53 Not out from Matthew Pettinger and a solid innings 25 by Faizaan Intiaz, and very solid bowling by Waseem Quereshi, Joe Whitlam and Jamie Randall. After restricting Longridge to 44 for 6, Longridge hung on to get within 40 runs of Nelson’s total of 115.
The Under 13s Pairs team on 3 May followed up this success with a big win over Lowerhouse.
The U15s found the going a bit more difficult in their cup game against Church on 4 May, only managing to score 55 for 7 off 20 overs. Plenty of batting practice needed with Joe Scuderi on Thursday nights! Tom Garner from the U13s showed up his elders and batted very well though in his first u15s game. The bowling also all went a bit wrong, so we are going to put that down to experience and work on our game for the next game. Our bowling looks good in practice, and we think our batting is better than this – honestly! Good luck to the Church in the next round.
The U11s lost a tight match on 10 May. With only a few needed by the last pair, we unfortunately lost three wickets instead of getting the necessary runs. Well, it goes like that sometimes.
But plenty of smiles were back on faces with a great win for the under 13 Full team over Burnley on Friday 11 May. This was the first “out when you’re out” 11 a side game for many of the players so we didn’t really know what to expect. We fielded first and our bowling and fielding was really excellent. In particular the fielding was a noticeable improvement on last season. Callum Atkinson took an early wicket but just as important we bowled few bad balls and restricted Burnley to 72 for 2, with Anna Pettinger (who opened the bowling) being particularly economical, bowling 3 overs for 6. Adam Beattie and Oliver Dinning then opened our batting. After a slowish start (we were 11 off 4 overs) Oli and Adam accelerated our score, with Oli scoring a fine 32 not out and Adam an equally fine 25 not out, with an undefeated 73 run partnership and to win by 10 wickets. Whilst, as with the U17s, there is some early season confidence in the strength of this side, the margin of victory was unexpected! But as anyone who has played cricket knows, the game usually has a way of bringing you down if you become too confident…….
And finally our young U9 team got going on Saturday 12 May with a fine win over Burnley. Restricting Burnley to 243, our batters scored 283 with plenty of big hits from Aayan Malik, Farhan and Ishmail in particular. Congratulations to Tomasc on his first u9 game in Year 1 and to his Dad and Grandad who agreed to help out and score!
We’’ll try to post regular reports here as the season continues. If you are not already involved in any capacity in our junior cricket set up and and would like to be, please call Andrew Pettinger on 07775586509.
